Shitake to ya!

My first crop of Shitakes

As I wrote previously Tom and I purchased mushroom growing kits at Maker faire.  He got an oyster mushroom one and I got a shitake one.  We were fortuanate in that the weather for the week after the fair was a pleasant 70 degree’s and by the end of the week I had my first crop of shitakes. After that I wasn’t sure if  it’d grow anymore since the weather got a lot warmer and some mold began to show on the surface of the block. I washed all the mold off, refrigerated the block overnight and with a cooling trend in the weather I got another good crop. Now summer is in full swing with triple digit temps so I don’t expect any more, but perhaps in the fall I’ll order another kit and try growing some oyster mushrooms.
